Andrew Svenson

Andrew Svenson worn born on May 8, 1910 and died August 21, 1975 from cancer. He worked in Newark, NJ on the Newark Evening News (which is no longer around) prior to joining the Stratemeyer Syndicate as a writer. At first, he was employed part-time, and was asked to write/contibute to the Mel Martin Baseball series. In May of 1948, he became a full-time employee of the syndicate and worked on series such as The Hardy Boys, and some books in the Bobbsey Twins series.

He started the Happy Hollister series in 1953, The Bret King series in 1960, and The Tolliver series in 1967. He became a partner in the syndicate in 1961. Of the three series that he initiated, The Happy Hollister series was by far the most popular. It became one of the top sellers in Syndicate history and the 33 title series spanned 16 years.

His formula was simple. He insisted that the first page of any story should plunge the reader into danger and excitement, and that each chapter should have a suspensful ending that would "force the kid to turn the page".
